Bayside Cemetery Association was established Oct 14, 1865. The first 12 trustees were as follows: Bloomfield Usher, William W. Morgan, John H. Seeley, T. Sreatfield Clarkson, Edward Crary,
E. D. Brooks, George Richards, Edward Hitchings, Aaron M. Deming, Harvey M. Story, H. C. Riggs, and Hiram H. Peck It is an example of the Rural Cemetery movement. The consecration services were hold Oct 6, 1866. In 1867 15 acres were added.
Interment began in 1867. The graves with death dates before 1867 were moved from abandoned cemeteries in town like the Elderkin Cemetery. The Elderkin Cemetery was in Depot St. It had to be moved because of the Railroad. Another cemetery was on Willow Street.
Today Bayside is one of the three main cemeteries in Potsdam. The other two are St. Mary's and Garfield.
